About Hayah Film Competition
The Hayah Film Competition is a section of the Middle East International Film Festival (MEIFF) in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Anyone in the Middle East can submit films, no more than five minutes long, in an iPod compatible format, in one of three categories: Student, Professional, and Amateur. Each category will have a winner who receives a cash prize and other awards which will be presented at the MEIFF Closing Night Ceremony. The Hayah Film Competition, presented by Abu Dhabi Women’s College and EmiratesMac Apple User Group, promises to be an exciting event which combines creativity with the latest technology, and it fits well in with the overall spirit and ambition of MEIFF.

About the name
Hayah, or hayat, basically means “life” in Arabic, and it’s a good characterization of what the whole competition is about. It’s about capturing and portraying life at the size of an iPod screen. It’s about all various aspects of life, told in short stories, by people from all over the Middle East. It’s (depending on who submits films) about showing life locally and in the region on a new and exciting technological platform. In that sense, it would seem to be a good name for a film festival. We like it and we hope you do as well.
